After staying put in the studio from Thursday until today, we went to the Washington Slagbaai National Park via a rented truck. The roads are not suitable for low to the ground cars, so a truck or jeep is necessary. The park is located in the northern end of Bonaire. It is a combination of the former land plantations owned by the Washngton and Slagbaai families. These plantations supplied salt, charcoal, aloe extract, divi-divi pods, and goats for export to Curacao and Europe. Amber went with us. Here are the pictures of the park.
Amber Boven, a Dutch intern we met who was staying at Elisabeth's other studio, enjoying the ride in a "big" truck.
This is the skeleton of a whale that was impaled by a cruise ship in 2000. High school students reconstructed the 40 foot Bryde's (pronounced "borr-dess") whale's skeleton.
